Ministry Passions

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is at the core of my ministry outlook. By God’s grace, a relationship with Jesus Christ both transforms who we are and informs our approach to family, the world, and those we might otherwise consider strangers. Being a new creation, we are called into communities bound by Christ, to share the spiritual hope of the Gospel with others, as well as meeting the tangible needs of those we encounter in daily life.

Teaching and preaching are an important part of worship. I believe that the Bible, God’s written word, speaks clearly about how we live as people made in God’s image. Therefore, my sermons are grounded in the scripture of the day. I also value storytelling, contemporary needs, cultural references, and humor as part of the sermon. Through the Spirit, God engages us during the sermon as we seek to understand how to apply God’s word to our lives today.

Stylistically, I appreciate preaching both from behind the pulpit, as well as moving in front of the congregation. I find the latter approach to preaching allows me to connect well with the congregation, maintain eye contact, and it brings additional energy to the message. Over the past year and a half, I have been blessed to preach at 11 churches in the Richmond, VA area, some multiple times. This experience has helped me hone my preaching and worship leadership.

The psalmist tells us to make a joyful noise in our worship of God (Psalm 95). Music is an important part of praising God, both in private (you might see me singing in the car!), and in our worship together. Whether it is a traditional hymn or contemporary praise song, both are on my iTunes playlist and are part of my spiritual walk with God.
